Rep. Bill G. Schuette: House Adopts Republican Plan for immediate tax relief for hard-working families
RELEASE|January 30, 2023

State Rep. Bill G. Schuette, of Midland, issued the following statement after the State House approved an amended plan that follows the Republican tax relief proposal to put more money back in the pockets of hardworking Michiganders. An amended House Bill 4002 raises the Earned Income Tax Credit from 6% to 30% and will make it retroactive for the 2022 tax year. Schuette spearheaded the retroactive component with his own recently introduced legislation:

“Our House Republican plan allowed Michiganders to claim this tax credit this year – because people are facing financial difficulties right now. They deserve immediate relief and can’t wait until 2024 or beyond, as the initial Democrat plans laid out.

“I am glad we could collaborate on a solution that is going to provide hard-working families with real relief and make life more affordable. Incorporating our plan reflects what people really need – real help, right now.

“I will continue working to find solutions for hard-working people and their families across the 95th District.”
