Lawmaker helped spearhead landmark road funding solution just weeks after joining the Legislature

State Rep. Steve Frisbie (R-Pennfield) today delivered testimony before the House Transportation Committee to urge support for his road funding plan.

The plan is an eight-bill package introduced by Republicans last week to finally curtail Michigan’s rampant pothole problem without raising taxes.

Frisbie made a promise to Calhoun County constituents at the top of the term to find a solution for local roads – and just two months in, he’s already delivering on that promise.

“I’m as bothered by the condition of our roads as anyone else,” Frisbie said. “But I’m also not a fan of paying more taxes when the government isn’t being a great steward of the dollars we’re already being taxed. I know exactly how working families in my communities feel and this plan keeps them in mind.”

The total funds prioritized for roads under the plan is $3.1 billion. Frisbie’s part of the plan, specifically, ensures that taxes paid at the pump only fund the roads. Another part of the plan hold schools harmless, so students won’t be affected by the shift. Other parts of the plan curtail corporate handouts, which have recently proven to be ineffectual in several instances.

“Road funding plans have come and gone over the years, but I’m confident this is the true solution that will produce real results for Michigan drivers,” Frisbie said. “This isn’t a one-time or short-term fix, this plan creates long-term solutions that will last for years to come.”

The multi-bill package contained within HBs 4180-4187 now awaits a vote from the committee before advancing to the House floor for considerations.
